Fellowship Square Summer Season’s fifth and final weekend of events concludes with a special multicultural picnic for all the borough to enjoy.
Feast on a diverse choice of tasty food options from local traders including; African Rose, Curry Cats, Jam Shack, Sweet Tooth (Indian), Maryam Luong, Fellowship Foods and Sheebakes, with freshly ground coffee from Haven Coffee. Or bring your own picnic and blanket to enjoy with friends and family from the comfort of your own picnic spot on the grassy slopes surrounding the square.
Live music and performances will be taking place throughout the day including aerial acrobatics first seen at Fellowship Square's opening performance and film project “The Sky is Full of Gold”.
There are creative workshops from 'Go Wildlife Carnival' for the little ones to make butterfly, bat and wildflower handhelds, face masks, learn the 'butterfly dance' and pick-up a free activity book. Sheebakes will be offering cake decorating workshops and the Connecting Communities team will also be on hand to introduce you to new ways or reconnecting with other members of the borough through events and community initiatives.
Plus, there will be a special collaborative performance between Mbilla Arts’ African drummers and Colombian dance troupe Somos Chibchas which will provide a cultural crossover of Gambian and Colombian folklore, creativity, music and dance that will keep you entertained. Expect infectious rhythms, spectacular costumes and a chance to join in and learn some new dance moves!
Mbilla Arts is a Walthamstow-based African performing arts organisation that facilitates West African drumming workshops and events, as well as dance and storytelling. If you are inspired by the performance, you can join Mbilla Arts and Somos Chibchas every Saturday at their free drop in cultural club in Walthamstow.
Connecting Communities is a movement that brings people together, celebrating and sharing the good work of the borough and its people while also inspiring action.
