The Black Artisans project will showcase 24 UK-based Black artisans and their work through portrait photography. It will explore their professional journeys in a series of lectures, made available as an educational resource to encourage Black artists at the beginning of their study and careers. Black Artisans will surface and celebrate the work of artisans that operate in traditional UK areas and will further explore crafts that originate worldwide. It will include traditional artisanal areas such as steel pan makers, basketry, and calabash artists who have been overlooked in traditional Eurocentric understandings of craft.
Exhibition will be showing:
Tuesday 19 until Sunday 31 October (Leyton Library)
Tuesday 5 until Monday 18 October (Chingford Library)
