The grounds of Fellowship Square will be filled with laughter on Saturday 31 July as our friends at Soho Theatre host a special one day "takeover".
The day will include comedy labs to inspire budding comics, performances for all the family including local social enterprise Haven Coffee, whose stage show "Laffuccino" features a line-up of talented comedians from Refugee and Migrant backgrounds (no tickets necessary, simply turn-up) and a special comedy show curated by Soho Theatre themselves. Tickets for this top night are limited and cost £5 with proceeds going to WF Mayor's chosen charity.
Food and drink from local vendors Pillars Brewery, Hanoi ca Phe, Last Night a Vegan Saved my Life, La Gelatiera, Fellowship Foods and Ruttle and Row will be available throughout the day to keep your energy levels topped up. Or bring your own picnic to enjoy from your chosen spot on the grass around the Square.
Please note: Seating for all performances is 'picnic style' so bring a blanket/rug to sit on. For those with wheelchairs a dedicated viewing area will be available. Alcohol is not permitted in the Square unless it is bought on site.
British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters will be covering all Soho Theatre workshops and performances throughout the day.
11.30am Soho Theatre's Cory Hippolyte - 'Drama for young people'
A fun and interactive session suitable for ages 13-16.
This 60 minute taster workshop is for young people wanting to step outside their comfort zone in the safe hands of our go-to drama warm up guy, Cory Hippolyte. Includes fun games to get in the zone and using physicality and vocals to create theatre. Cory Hippolyte is an Actor and Facilitator based, with a long-standing curiosity and commitment to empower and foster creativity in others. Cory helped to run anti-bullying campaigns and peer mentoring in schools leading onto becoming a junior counsellor. He was introduced to drama through his local community theatre and has gone on to work in Facilitation and Outreach for Soho Theatre, Unicorn, Roundhouse and Barbican as well as touring Theatre in Education shows to schools, people referral units, community centres in London and regionally. 12.30pm Soho Theatre Q&A: Comedians talk all things comedy
Soho Theatre’s Comedy Associate, Lee Griffiths, talks all things comedy in this 60 minute Q&A with some of Soho’s alumni success stories and working comedians. The place to be for anyone interested in getting into comedy, is a comedian or just interested in what it talks to make it in the industry. Free Entry. Turn up on the day.
Lee Griffiths – Not only is Lee Soho’s Comedy Associate, he’s one fifth of epic, Edinburgh Award Nominated sketch group, ‘Late Night Gimp Fight’.
Archie Maddocks - Archie is a multi-talented, multi-disciplined creative artist, with extensive experience in Comedy and Drama. Archie is a confident, cheerful, provocative and most importantly hilarious award-winning stand-up comedian armed with a natural stage presence, quick acerbic wit and a ‘winning smile.’As a writer, his work has been produced at the Bush Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith, Orange Tree Theatre, Royal Court, and in New York at the New Light Theatre for theatre, BBC Radio 4, and Sky One for TV show.
Sadia Azmat - Being Leyton based, Sadia is passionate about sharing her wisdom to her locals. She is a British Asian Stand-up comedian, writer and BBC Producer. In 2018 Sadia launched her critically acclaimed BBC podcast “No Country For Young Women” which has enjoyed global success and consistent reviews from audiences and critics alike including 'Best audio 2018' as featured by Miranda Sawyer for the Observer and Apple's Top picks for 2018.
Fran Bushe - Fran Bushe is an award-winning comedian, writer and performer. She has had sold-out runs at Soho Theatre, her book My Broken Vagina was published this year and she has written comedy for Channel 4. She is a sketch comedy course leader at Soho Theatre.
Huge Davies - Huge has quickly risen to become one the most exciting, unique acts in the UK. In August 2019, his debut solo show The Carpark was a smash hit at the Edinburgh Festival and resulted in a Best Newcomer Nomination. In January 2020 he performed a sell-out run of The Carpark at the Soho Theatre in London. TV appearances include Harry Hill’s Clubnite (Channel 4), The Now Show (BBC Radio 4), The Stand Up Sketch Show (ITV2).
1.30pm - Soho Theatre's Benjamin Salmon – ‘Solo Storytelling Workshop’
Suitable for all ages. This 60-minute taster will include a mixture of drama games and fun, before putting together your own work in progress stand-up / solo storytelling set. Known to schools in Waltham Forest, Ben Salmon is one of Soho Theatre’s Theatremaker workshop facilitators in comedy and theatremaking.
Benjamin Salmon is an award-winning playwright, actor and comedian. His play, "Blowhole", is set to premiere at Pleasance, London in 2021. His play, "Our House", commissioned by National Youth Theatre won a UK Heritage Award for Best Live Event in 2020. Benjamin is one half of the sketch comedy duo, "Miller & Salmon" - their debut Edinburgh Fringe show, “Genesis”, transferred to Soho Theatre in November 2019. Free entry.
