Waltham Forest was the first ever London Borough of Culture in 2019.

Throughout 2019, more than 1,000 projects, events and cultural activities formed the programme for Waltham Forest’s London Borough of Culture year, created with over 800 artists and creative organisations. Every primary school in the borough was involved in the programme.

Waltham Forest was the first London Borough of Culture and will always remain London's Borough of Culture. With 2020 on the horizon, the future of culture across Waltham Forest is set to go from strength-to-strength.  Find out how you can get involved.

The year shone a light on the fantastic cultural activities already taking place across the borough, whilst providing new opportunities for people from all backgrounds to share, converse and connect with each other in person and digitally. Deliberately blurring the line between residents, professional artists and community members, Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture was a space where art, ideas, and action collide.
